Shapes and Profiles are the names given to non-standard mill products. These are produced in a number of different ways, of which extrusion is the most common. They are more complex in shape than standard mill products and are usually produced in shorter batch runs. The most commonly produced Shapes and Profiles are: Angles, Beams, Rails, Tees, Channels, and Custom profiles. These have a large span of different applications. For example, Angles can be used to produce storage racks, Beams are used extensively in construction to support loads over spans, and Rails are most often used in transportation. Custom profiles are often used to produce multi-glazed windows and doors for homes.

As the scope of their usage is broad, the material they may be manufactured from is broad as well, to better suit their applications.  Some will be relied upon for their strength, like those used in construction, others for their elasticity and ability to absord energy, like those in the automotive industry.
